I really want to watch it, but I kind of like to have a general understanding of what the point of the show is first. So can anyone give me a little help?
Doctor Who is a british sci-fi tv show that was started in the late 1960s, took a 15 year break, then started again in i think 2005. it is about an alien timelord called the doctor who flies around in space saving planets, the universe in his TARDIS which is a time machine and a space ship. if you want a better description look at the wiki page.
